Been im LA and Vegas for the past two weeks while seeing Jeeps is obvious ive seen many Disco 1/2s, RR Classics and even a few Defenders!

Main thing is ive never seen such old Landys in such good condition, literally spotless. Even had a look under a couple for rust, no waxyol no rust no welding. Even the paintwork on em is spotless.

Spose as its so hot and hardly rains rust isnt much of an issue, but the bodywork is still spotless and not to mention they are all V8s

Been a nice trip, no pics sadly never had a camera on me. Though I did get a pic of what I thought was a nice RR L322 -

No salt on the roads

I was in San Diego and Santa Clara a few years back when they had snow the first time for something 40 years.

I haven't laughed so much in years. They are totally unprepared and the drivers have absolutely no idea what to do with half an inch of snow on the road. People sliding off the roads all over the place.

When I got in to the office you could tell the people who came from the north east, mid west and places like Colorado that are used to snow. They were the only people there. The rest (Californians) didn't dare go out in the stuff, specially after watching the news casts of the panic on the roads.

Lot of nice Land Rovers San Diego as well by the way

its our damp that kills em, where its continually wet, or dry corrosion isnt as prevelant, and, as mentioned the road salt in winter doesnt help the chassis.

There is no salt and in cali there is always a good temperature to stop damp and rot setting in when they do get wet.

There is a massive market for importing old v-dubs from cali into the UK.

I can only assume V8's were fitted so they could compete with the rest of the 4x4 market.

These days you can only import a defender to the US if its over 25 years old and it meets customs legislation.

Sounds a lot like down here in southern England as well

On snowy days I more worried about the other drivers than I am about the snow and ice!

It's the constant damp here and don't forget we live on a small island so we have a salty atmosphere too!

explain Florida then????? They have the same conditions wet damp, salty atmosphere also

Fair points! It is so nice to see some proper classics in such good condition, some of em looked like the just rolles off the showroom floor!

Walked past an LR garage today aswell, not quite as nice as the once in the UK. Was just a white brick building and a carpark with a couple D4s and some L322s. Still the Fenders look SO much nicer than the Heaps. Its like seeing a 67 Mustang rolling down the road in the UK.

Ive seen so many 'off road' style spec'd 4x4s youd think they would be able to drive in anything!

Did meet this guy from Texas who had a Jeep Cherokee & Toyota 4x4 we got talking about offroading/laning etc yet he had no idea what low range or diff lock was for... I explained he was very greatful! Lol
