Hi everyone. I'm new onto this forum so hello!

Loving some of the threads on here so far.

I wanted to ask people what their most loved Land Rover design is? And what do we all think will be the future of the designs as they seem to be getting more 'urban' over the years.

Cheers guys!!!

The new "defender replacement" DC100 looks abso-bloody-lutey HIDEOUS :5bpuke:

Look at that, horrible! Looks like they cross bred a Freelander 2 with a mini countryman! Nobody would ever take that off road, too easy to damage and too hard to replace! Look at that front wing panel for example, one dent and its ruined and will cost £££s to replace, wheras the old defender looked good with bumps and dents - and even if it didnt you could get a quick bolt change panel off ebay for a tenner!

Do you think that they will ever go back to that really practical Defender design. Replaceable modular panelling etc OR is this all part of their Urban move?

I could be wrong, but from what I gather the "urban" look is due to EU meddling, making cars "safer" to hit pedestrians with, so now all cars have to look like some godawful bubble shape car drawn by a toddler, no nice angles and bolt on modular plates for body panels!

Are they still doing the DC100 thing? I thought they'd canned that idea a few years ago.

I think its still going ahead, they were testing it on top gear fairly recently I believe?

If the dc100 is really the replacement for the defender I will be making damn sure that my current landy lasts for the rest of my life cos I don't want any of my hard earned cash to go to funding such a crock of S**t. I'd even go so far as to say that I'd rather buy non genuine OEM parts to make sure that landrover don't get a penny from me.

If I wanted a hairdressers car I'd buy a freelander. I'd rather have a nissan Juke or Citroen cactus than the DC100.

I can't see that it would be too difficult to modify the current mechano type defender to keep it in line with new regs. It would surely be cheaper too.

Land rover hate enthusiasts unfortunately. They are trying to distance themselves from the "embarrassing" community as much as impossible.

Much better off flogging plastic throwaway tupperware to the Chelsea brigade.

They said it themselves... "The replacement for the Land Rover Defender will be positioned as a 'premium' product, company boss John Edwards revealed to What Car"

To hell with the honest blue collar worker and his vehicle.

As far as I know the DC100 is not to replace the Defender. However it is supposed to be released as another Land Rover model.

Defender is going because it's hand built still!! and makes Virtually zero profit. In fact it's a loss leader for LR. Disco RR & Gaylander sales have been propping it up for years..

and arent those sales aided by the defender style history

I'm sure lots of people want a defender but buy Disco RR or gaylander because they need/want something comfier or more car like. Doubt if that's gonna be enough to save the fender though.

neither do i, but i still think its short sighted and they arent short of luxury suv car models

The majority of organisations using utility vehicles these days lease them. They want a vehicle that costs no more than necessary, is acceptable to their employees and does the job required of it. They are not interested in ease of repair, or long life. Their employees are not interested in history or legend, they just want comfort, modern toys and no trouble.
That is why it is mostly Toyota pickups and the like we see about, and Defenders sell in comparatively small numbers. That is the market Land Rover must meet.
If there is a market for traditional Land Rovers why the Rover lose almost all of their markets to the Japanese and nearly go bust when Rover was offering the later Series models? It was only the hurried introduction of the Discovery, a vehicle people would buy and that was copied from the Japanese marketing strategy that Land Rover was saved. And they have gone on to success by selling Ranger Rovers, Discoveries and Freelanders, not Defenders.
How many enthusiasts on this forum who say the traditional Defender is the way to go will actually buy a new one?

So it seems to me, correct if I'm wrong that you guys/gals seem to be more into the older models and feel that Land Rover is leaving you and their past behind a bit?

You won't find many on here with a new defender. Newer gaylanders, rangies and discos yes but the vast majority on here have defenders that are at least 20 years old. That's not including those with series or old discos
