yes checked codes but not with a landrover specific tool ...didnt really throw up anything relevant ....according to my experienced operator mate
 
Needs to be LR specific as the L322 is not OBD2 compliant. Diagnostics may at least give you a starting point.
 
one more question since your not sleeping yet today I fitted a used gearbox to my other l322 gm auto 54 plate upon starting it felt like it engaged reverse for one second then made a pinging noise and now won t drive ...when the filler plug is removed with engine running fluid pours out ....has the pump failed or not been engaged properly?

Sounds very much like T/C not located on oil pump drive dogs correctly and they have sheared off, gearbox off again to check and new oil pump needed.
