Only reason to fit wheel spacers is if you fit wider wheels. The spacers return the wheel centre line to over the hub centre line. Fitting spacers just to widen the track makes you a Kevin with a Corsa type i am afraid. Also knackers your wheel bearings and alters the geometry.
Well thats a matter of opinion. I think most would agree that an L322 is miles away from a "kevin with a corsa!"
I was thinking of getting them purely for the extra stability they provide. At the moment i have 22" with low profiles on which i hate. I want smaller wheels with some AT tyres on but they wont be as wide as the current tyres i have now, so i wanted to try and keep things the same with the spacers after i swap the wheels or wider if possible.
I don't mind about the wheel bearings. They can simply be replaced as needed. Just like any other part.
Ok get the widest spacers you can find. Widen the track and overload your steering gear sounds a brilliant idea.

I can't use the road tyres off road which is what i want to start doing.

I can't belive that people are taking what i have said the wrong way. I want rid of the low profiles and big wheels so i can take my 4x4 off road. Thats what it was made to do right? This is a 4x4 forum right?

It may have been better if you had said that in the first place. In my first answer i said you only fit spacers if you need to return the wheel centre line over the hub. That is if you fit new wheels with a different off set. You do not fit them just to widen the track. It puts the steering geometry out if you do that, and over loads the steering gear.
if you are serious about taking the L322 off road why not keep the 22's (or even change them for 20's or 18's) keep the road tyres for everyday and invest in a cheap set of steel wheels for your AT's.
M8 of mine has a L322 and he's gone for 18's with General Grabber AT's and although he takes it off road (nothing too extreme) the drive on road isn't brill

The wheels on there at the moment are very wide. I'd imagine the off road wheels i get next wont be as wide. Which is one reason why i wanted to get the spacers, to keep it the same as it is now or wider if possible.
I put wheel spacers on both my Hilux and my Landcruiser and each of them had no problems for the 2 years i had them on. The Landcruiser needed a new CV joint at one stage but the Hilux didn't need anything done to it for 2 years when i eventually sold it. Both cars were much better off road when traversing over slanted hills and banks. At least in my opinion anyway. (Less chance of rolling)
Different cars are built differently. Which is why i wanted to hear from others with L322's who had already put spacers on their cars.
I don't really know anything about offsets etc, so i guess i will have to buy the new wheels first and then ask again? They will most likely just be smaller Land Rover wheels off another Range Rover is ebay alows it.
The smaller the better i.e 17" with some bulky tyres like BFG's. They have always done me proud in the past. As for on road ride comfort, im not too bothered. Im sure the air suspension on the L322 will be more than adequate to cope with them. It will be what it will be. All i care about is taking this laptop off road to see what she can do!! Hello mate. Thats what i have planned. I will keep my current wheels for safe keeping. If the on road ride turns out to be diabolical i can always swap them over between off roading and on roading. Did you actually go in your mates car yourself? Was it "bad" or "ok"? It will be rather annoying if i have to keep swapping the wheels over everytime. Only one way to find out i guess. Sorry but my crystal ball is away for service. I would think that a spacer of 30 mm each side would make very little if any difference to rolling resistance.

yep, I had a go in his L322 and with the 18's on with the grabbers (which were less than 4 months old) the ride was not as nice as my P38 on 18's with scorpions on. When he got it, it had 20's on and pirelli road biased tyres
It seemed to float a bit but he went for 255/60's and not 255/55's so the sidewall is a little deeper which might account for that and there was quite a load of noise from the tyres.
I haven't been in a L322 on standard road baised tyres so don't know for sure if the tyres have affected the ride but he's happy with them, can live with the noise (before the L322 he ran a 4.2 diesel landcruiser) and loves them off road
Horses for courses I suppose - He has kept the 20's as his plan is that when he comes to sell the L322 he'll put them back on (more sellable he says) and use the 18's & Grabbers on his next truck
