Hi all, I rebuild my 2.25 Landy engine, new pistons bored 40 oversize, new bigends and main bearings. When turned by hand it turns freely, when I turn with the starter without sparkplugs there is a hard knocking sound, any advice?

Not sure if the pistons can hit the valves on a landy engine but you could have the valve timing wrong. Or there's too much play in a big or small end. Can you tell where in the engine the knocking is?

if you say it turns freely by hand i dont think there is anything wrong what you have done except the flywheel/ starter motor did you tighten flywheel bolts or is starter motor loose ?

Thanks guys I found the problem, two flywheel bolts was lost, so I replaced them, with two slightly longer bolts, they where just catching the bellhousing, when turned by hand it did not feel like its catching, inexperience maybe! Any advise to prime the oilpump before starting?
