Please can someone help me identify a knocking noise. It only happens when the engine is idleing and in gear. Sounds louder when i turn the steering. The knocking stops when its in neutral or normal driving. Its a 4.6 P 38 by the way - thanks.

Mine had a knocking from underneath,it was just a loose heat sheld vibrating on top of the exhaust.

Lift up bonnet and listen. No luck? Then put it up on strong ramps. Get under it and listen again. (Make sure ramps ARE strong and someone is sat inside with foot on brakes). You`ll soon locate the source.

I found the knocking?? Don't laugh
It was a wrench on top of power steering
Box?? Don't know how it got there. Or how
Long it was there. Whoops

Mine has been squeeling when driving - but I also noted the occasional knock when sitting at the lights - front propshaft UJ on its way out. Does she vibrate between 20-30mph?

no it doesnt? it does it only when low revs in gear? but not when in reverse or park etc more pronounced if i turn wheels???

i think its the heat sheeld, on the drivers side come loose..

My knocking turned out to be the rear differential but could it be the front differential having knocked a few teeth out? Just a thought
