Have a look at your anti-roll bar bushes.
When these are worn you'll get a knock when you swing the car left to right / right to left. Cheap and easy to do.

no need to get the wheel off...
look under the valance on the chassis on the nearside front, you'll see the roll bar bush, just waggle the bar, you'll know instantly if it's the problem.
Takes 10 mins to fit a new one dont even need a jack! ... (Tip: cover the new one in washing up liquid to fit it!)
no such thing as replacing a wheel bearing on a Disco II... the bearing is a whole unit including the ABS sensor etc, and bolts onto the swivel ... £200 odd quid for a new one!
