Hi all, my 4.6 has a knock which sounds like its coming from the rocker cover on the drivers side. Its a constant knock and doesnt increase in speed or noise with the revs. Ive just changed the oil and filter which was thick black but no water in it or any signs of shavings of any kind. There are no leaks of oil or water that I can see and it doesnt overheat. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Jase

Unlikely not to change with revs - but Tappets can make noise and if only 1 it can sound like a little man inside with a hammer

Did it starts after oil change?

Well that was short lived, its stopped??? Very strange! Let you know if it returns

No I've heard the knock before but it forgot about it until today when I heard it when sat in traffic. But like I said it doesnt increase with revs and tappet rattle usually does doesnt it? Im not too mechanically minded by the way. lol

Tappet was maybe stuck or oil preload low

Sorry but what does oil preload low mean?

Tappets are hydraulic and if worn/stuck without oil in really noisy
I tried this on previous car ZX1 Extralube Micro Oil Metal Treatment 1x250ml | eBay

and it worked

The thick sludgy oil probably blocked a lifter and it tapped until it pumped up again with the fresh oil. If your old oil was that bad - change it and the filter again after 500 miles.
