Hello,

I thought I could smell diesel on my way into work this morning.

I parked up at work and then left it a couple of hours and went back to check. It took about 20 seconds of churning before the engine would fire (it's always started right off before) and sure enough, when I lifted the bonnet the there was a steady drip from the bottom of the lift pump and a spray from the back of it, in the direction of the bell housing.

As it happens, I have a spare lift pump at home but I don't want to drive home to fit it - the leak is just too bad. I'll have to get an AA recovery - oh the shame!

What a pity I was not out over the weekend with it as I would have probably picked up the fault sooner. Bugger!

I should have said, it's a 200 TDI. Wonder if the AA would fit my spare for me. Save me getting dirty!

They would do if you had it with you, not if its at home, cos they would have recovered it for you.
can't you get someone to nip home, or drop it off at work for you??

Well that was a great result.

The AA Patrol took me home to fetch my spare pump and then fitted it for me in 10 mins, so in the end I did not even have get my hands dirty.

Excellent result. If only we had a spare 300TDI at the weekend ;)

Well worth the AA membership

That's not a bad idea. I'm not sure how many months it will take to talk the wife around to that one. In my case, it will have to be a spare 200 TDI of course :)

Yes, they have been out to me a couple of times now. The last time, with my old engine, I had it recovered about 100 miles on the back of a wagon - would not like to think how much that would have cost if I had to fund it! They have always been out to me really quickly with good service.
