Generically speaking (as this actually relates to a none-land rover auto mobile) what can cause coils to keep dying? My friend is on his 5th - 2 of which were brand new - i can't help but feel there is a underlying fault here, but all i've come up with so far is:

a: power left on to coil when engine off. Checked with multimeter and not the case
b: too much power - checked and 13.5v on charge.

any suggestions?
 
if we knew what it was fitted to someone may have an idea with common faults with that motor

or do we need to get the lz crystal ball out
 
I was expecting you to get the crystal ball out, but, as it's a Sunday night i'll be kind...

It's for a random 2CV based kit car.
 
Had a 2cv that used to eat coils. I put a piece of rubber mat underneath it. Cured the problem which appeared to be vibration.
