I'm not normally one for fighting a lost battle... but the event is organised by a mountain rescue team, promoted by them and facilitated by them. It just so happens to make use of Forestry Commission land. For the sceptics out there half the ticket price of the Safari will go to the charity.
£50 for a responsible day out in the forest beats any trip up the M6!
There are very few genuine oportunities to spend an entire day on remote rugged lanes and the £50 reflects the cost of insuring and running the event - only because it is researched, promoted and staffed by volunteers can we make a contribution to our charity.
The Grand Tour is more than a 4x4 safari so look beyond this if you are trying to justify the cost. Afterall - look hard enough and you'll find it costs less than some rounds of golf, day skiing, a gun on a turkey shoot, dinner at Claridges and not a penny of that will ever find its way to charity. 60% of the GT ticket prices will go to charity - the event is widely sponsored and thus represents great value to particpants and the charity it serves.
There is no commercial element at all - so be fair!
