Hi All,
I programmed the key fob in the nanocom and it opens the doors and I can start my car with it no bother.
But if I sit in the car and the red light goes on from the alarm, it won't start. I have to open and close the car and it will start again.

What did I do wrong?

I believe you will find your new keyfob does not have a transponder chip, If my understanding of the system is correct.

Cheers

Nothing, the red light is an indication that the system has just reimmobilised the engine, as u haven't started your engine, it's all standard stuff there's a exact time delay before this happens it's in your owners handbook, 'maybe' just pressing the fobs unlock button like we do on D1s will remobilise your engine .

@neilly has a point, can be two things:
1. your fob is a rover 75 one or faulty as it doesnt communicate with the passive remobilisation exciter coil that's why you have to unlock to disable the immobiliser if the car stood more than 5 minutes
2. the remobilisation coil is at fault
are you one of those negligent owners who has only one fob for a D2? ... no offence but to have a D2 without disabled immobiliser and only one fob is a real risk, if you have the second fob try with that too to rule out the coil ... not a very common failure though

Too much hassle all this button pushing. LOL just kidding. I was more wondering if I had programmed it correctly or that I forgot something .

Is that the black square thing in the fob? They are there but should they be programmed too?

On the ball as always sierraferry. It is indeed a rover 75 fob!! I bought the car with one key fob and this was t0 be the extra key fob.
It works perfectly on the original key. Should I get another Disco key or is this one fine as a spare?

no programming available for that thing, as long as it unlocks it's fully programmed... and a D2 fob is not supposed to have a round thing in it, only rover 75 does, the D2 one works with an insertion in the PCB and a LC chip.... keep the rover key as pare cos it's good enough to get you out of trouble... that remobilisation thing is the only difference

I have been using a rover 75 key for a while as a "spare" as well as a D2 original. Both seem to work OK, except for the 5 minute rule that kicks in when the door is unlocked and the car not started, then the immobiliser cuts in and will not remobilise unless the "genuine" key is used. In which case I lock /unlock the car wiht the R75 key and start it straight away.

Cheers

speaking about immobiliser, even if you have two fobs it's important to know the EKA(it's obtainable FOC from main dealer or readable/settable with tester) cos if the receiver fails which is quite common no fob will help... then you are covered from the immobiliser point of view(provided it's not some BCU fault)

Cheers lads!!
At least I know I programmed it right. I can live with the 5 minute immobiliser activation.
I wanted an extra fob and I have on cheap this way.

Thanks again!!

Can I read the EKA code with my nanocom?

PLus , learn how to use the EKA code and remember how.

I just know I am going to have to use this one day, and I will be sat there for ages trying to remember how to do it, LOL!

Cheers

Cool, I will check that out tomorrow. Is it in the same menu as the key programming?

Come on , I'm 50 now, takes me all my time to remember to get up in the morning!
Think it is but my unit is in the disco and its pi55ing down, so although I'd love to help, you're on your own.
(least till the rain stops) :)

LOL, the weather is horrendous indeed. I need to replace one more window frame in the disco.

I will find it, I like playing with it anyway. Although I always forget where everything is. LOL

It's in "UTILITY : EKA CODE - READ - SET" , i made it like the pin code of my credit card, print out the procedure from RAVE and keep it in the car somewhere you know
