I have done a search and understand that a used fob cannot be reprogrammed but thats not what I am after.

If I had a key cut, just a normal key with no fob / electronics in it. If the car was left open or unlocked using the fob would the new key that had been cut start the car???

Only ask as the rangie might be down the folks for a month or so, it can stay unlocked there but I want my dad to start it up every few days. As I only have one key on a fob which I will keep at mine i wanted to know if this will work for him to just start it up without me spending £150 from a dealer on a new key.

Cheers

James

Why cant your dad just have the key fob?

Because chances are high that he will loose it, (his health isn't great and memory is suffering)

As its my only key not a risk I want to take.

Place in Bromsgrove does em for about £60 if memory serves.

and to answer yr question No key alone will not start the car, not if it's like mine anyway after 5 mins key removed the immobilizer switches itself on, which you then need the alrm fob to de-activate.

You can test it yr self turn off the alarm lock the car with the key.
Wait five mins undo the door with the key n try to start it.

Cant think of it off hand.

It's just off the main pedestrianised bit in town they have a sign out keys cut here, think there's a sports shop opposite.

I've got to go in, in a bit to bank a cheque I'll have a look. :)

Is it Bromsgrove Cobblers or something??? he re programmes as well??? If u can have a look whilst you there that will be great. cheers.

James it is Bromsgrove Cobblers,
he doesn't re-programme fobs though and doesn't do P38's

However MJA Landrover Tel : 01527 873058
