Hi guys

Having another problem.
My key fob batteries needed replacing so I replaced them, synced ok so no problems, well not quite, that was a week ago and now they appear to be flat again, they rarely go into my pocket so I don't think it'll be due to overuse, any idea on the cause?

Also I only have 1 fob, do I need to go to LR or can I get a used unit and reprogrammed it?

Can the immobiliser be turned off?

If you get cheapy market/watch shop batteries they never last long. Made that mistake when i first changed mine. Get some good quality phillips/energizer ones that are sold individually. They've lasted well over 2 years now.

When you say flat do you get the message on the dash and does the red light on the fob no longer work?
You may need to refurb the pad on the fob if worn and the back case - as the metal ring on the cap needs to make contact with the case to complete the circuit. Sometimes they have a habit of slipping round breaking the contact. Again from experience new cover solved this for me.

LR will only supply you with pre-programmed keys about £200ish a pop last time i checked. Someone on here does reprogramming of keys and may be along shortly- Cant remember who though.

Keys cannot be re-programmed, you can only get a key FOB from a dealer and you need to know if your working key is number 1, 2 or 3 as you cannot have 2 keys with the same number.

my local stealer quoted me £249 plus £45 re-programming. when i said it was a 2001, he replied, makes no difference, they all need programming.

It hasn't said they are low but I get the engine disabled message, and no red light on fob, mines a 1995 model if it makes a difference

Sounds like the back of the fob isnt completing the circuit and hence deactivating the immobiliser. I take you have intermittent remote locking trouble as well then?

Vary rarely will mine start with unlocking from the door, it always asks me to use the remote if i do this and try and start the engine. Refurb your key fob (costs peanuts and loads of suppliers on the net.) and sort your door lock out and this should solve the problems.
