Just changed the battery on my 2000 P38. On refitting was completely unable to sort the alarm. Got the "Key Code Lockout" message followed by "Press Remote". I just wanted to repeat a post by darklordvader just a couple of days ago. His advice works and is dead easy.

1. Insert key into door lock, turn left and press unlock button for 5 secs
2. Get into vehicle and turn on ignition (but don't start engine)
3. You should get a "Alarm Triggered" message
4. Switch off and take the key out
5. Get out and lock the doors with the keyfob, they should lock fine
6. Unlock with keyfob, get in and start up

It took me 5 minutes after alot of grief.. and swearing. Cheers darklord.

Is there any other way to sort this, I have got the same problem on my P38 but the keyfob buttons are not responding and I am at a loss on what to do?

If you get a message "Engine disabled press fob or enter EKA code". If your fob is not working because it has lost sync. It CANNOT be re synced until EKA code has been put in. Enter EKA code then resync fob. Follow instructions in owners manual for entering EKA code. "Keycode lockout", only comes up if you have entered EKA code incorrectly three times. You will have to wait 30 minutes for it to disappear then try again. Only try twice then open and close drivers door for two more tries you will never get "Keycode lockout". If you are sure you are entering EKA code correctly but it does not take, you may have problems with the lock microswitches.

Sometimes you can get lucky and take the battery off again for 10 minutes and reconnect. When disconnecting the battery in the first place always make sure car is unlocked, unalarmed and driver's door open!

I have tried entering what I think is the EKA written in the manual, but not getting anywhere and even disconnecting the battery for a week the dash warning doesn't reset.

Sounds like time to check the door microswitches then, even when it was fine before if you used the fob, it didn't unlock the front doors and if you used the key in the drivers door, it only unlocked that door?

If you lock the vehicle with the remote, then unlocking it with the key in the door will always just unlock the drivers door, and require the EKA code to get it started. However, if it is LOCKED with the key in the door, then it should lock the other doors and allow you to unlock.

If previously you could lock with the key in the door, but it wouldn't lock the other doors, then yes, it points to the microswitches in the drivers door latch being faulty. Though in that case it would be a failure of the CDL switch, so I would expect the tailgate to not lock/unlock either.

It is definitely worth checking the door latch microswitches, as the EKA process uses both the Key and CDL switches - and if either of these fail, then it won't allow the EKA to be entered.

I've attached a copy of my door latch test sheet, which has expected results.

You mentioned the Keycode lockout doesn't go out. You need to leave the vehicle alone for approx 30 mins when keycode lockout is displayed. There's nothing you can do all the time the keycode is up on the display.
