my brother's just forked out £70+ on a K&N 57I induction kit for his 300tdi disco. and he seems to think there's a definite increase in power and throttle response.

all i've noticed is a louder noise and him driving faster just to hear it!:rolleyes:

anyone else got on? does it make a difference? is it worth £70+? :confused::confused:

or is he just being a stupid lil prat like usual?:D
 
really? how depressing! so it is just him driving faster just to hear it! he needs to stop talking to those youths with there lil clio/saxo/fiesta! you know the type.... my car is loud there for it's fast!

Odear wasn't you young once, most of us have gone through that faze in our yoof, my mini van had a Peco exhaust :)
 
should have pointed out im 25 and he's my older brother. at 35 with 3 kids, he should have grown up by now. he also has a family car....VW SHARAN VR6..... only because it fits the family in with dog, and oh yes..... it's a VR6. very sad.

Here, we hooked the models up to a rolling road and logged power data with a standard element in place, then with a sports filter and a full induction kit. We used K&N sports filters (£48) on both cars, a K&N Apollo induction kit (£190) on the Signum and an Evolution V-Flow (£249) on the Golf.

So I would imagine not enough improvement on a Discovery to really notice.
 
me i've got a K&N panel filter, and i definatley gained a couple of mpg, dunno about power but owt that gives more mpg is worth examining

I had a cherry-bomb back box on my morris marina coupe :eek:

Also had two front spots and two fogs as well on the bumper :eek::rolleyes::eek:

Those were the days
 
I remember when my back box fell off of my 1.1 fiesta.

Changed it to a Big Bore 4 inch :D

No you didn't, these filters are supposed to flow more air more air equals more fuel :(
 
One of my jobs is testing engine's on a dyno for performance and economy, please believe me when i say these filters make no difference to performance or economy.

The only benefit of these type off filters on a LR is if they get wet they wont fall apart like the standard paper filters because they are made of cotton and are covered in oil and held together with a fine wire gause. In fact the filter housing depression can be higher with a new K+N filter (due to the oil).

Also when your std filter is full of dirt you throw it away fit a new one £5-£10 couple of minutes job done, K+N type wash oil out allow to dry then the task of re-oiling, not a 2 minute job if done propperly and could you gaurenty it would be fully oil eerrrrr NO.
 
k+n work by allowing more air into the engine, which in turn allows more fuel to burn, theoretically producing more power, but without removing other restrictions to the intake and exhaust side of things your never going to get the full benefit,

Yep thats the theory but a std filter will flow more than enough air for a std and quite possible worn landy engine, or any std engine for that matter.
 
well i fitted one to my last disco did next to bugger all however after taking off the EGR, cleaning out the inlet-manifold adding a bit more fuel then there was a big diffrence also pipper x or itg are a bit cheeper but do the same job.

so in a nut shell it is all very good adding more air but you need to dyno it to sort out the fuel to get the best improvment from that extra air
