Well........ my landrover 90 is a 1997 and it doesn't KLUNK with weight transfer - so my A frame ball joint is fine - thanks for asking 
Great thread. I've got exactly the same problem but after ruling out UJs I put it down to "user error" and my sh1t clutch control as I don't get the clonk it if I'm really gentle with the gear change (which is boring and almost impossible).
What are your engine mounts like?

I only get the clunk when changing gear and engaging 'power', so not when I'm slowing down or shifting down.
