I won't be doing this by myself, ofcourse, my dad will be helping as he is an experienced mechanic, the chassis and sills are good and yes it does have some battle scars but has never been off roaded. It will also probably need little done for the MOT once it has been started.

Good luck with 'the project'. I wish you well having tried to do the very same thing with a 'bargain' a couple of years ago. In my experience rust is going to be the big problem, and the likely cause of an MOT failure if it isn't done propely - and that's the problem, welding can drain your budget.
Going from the photos, just looking at the rough cost of replacement panels and parts, not to mention labour/paint and engine/transmission fixes, brakes calipers/corroded pipes - you are seriously over budget in relation to what the thing wil fetch (having obviously had so much work done to it, as opposed to being 'original').
It pains me to say but I would get rid of it now, take the hit and get another which is a better platform for what you want to do. Just a quick look at fleabay and you will see 15 or so classics within your budget, any number of which is likely to be in far better condition.
Don't take this the wrong way - I'm only trying to give you the heads up, I just wish someone had put a word in my ear before I spent the best part of a year fixing a right old dog - only to end up with a hugeley expensive right old dog.

what do you plan to use it for-being 15 your find a 3.9 impossible to insure when you have passed test.
Is it just a project?

its a great way to learn how to weld , it certainly upped my skill level with a mig set, have a look at my albums to see the g reg one I did.
I am now onto a 72 model with the hopes it will be worth more when I am finished than what I put into it.
Just check the chassis with a hammer all over first or you may be looking at big bucks for a new one.

Not much work for MOT Eh. Did it come with a pair of rose tinted glasses? Because when the tops as bad as that, the bottom is usually a lot worse.

Good luck with it , one thing though you say chassis/sill's etc are fine and some one mentioned checking the boot floor but have you checked what holds the rear of the boot/body up ie the body rear cross-member when my old one failed its first MOT just after I bought her the rear body cross-member fell out in 3 pieces when I went to replace it also have a look around where the fuel filler pipe comes into the boot space.Anyway have fun and post pictures as you go along interesting for us but more important for you when you put her back together and as a reference for later on.Believe me they are used to it after the Series engine change.
