There is a 3 pin plug that you have to plug in before cranking- ive not tried cranking without it, i just assumed it wouldnt work. Can anyone shed any light on whether this is a standard immobiliser related plug on the discovery 1 300tdi? (1995)- or has someone added it as a bypass feature? Any thoughts?

Interesting- so the original immobiliser would be redundant? (If indeed it had one)

Some didn't have them fitted from the factory.

There were several types that I have seen, some that look like a GameBoy game that you push into a slot in the dash and others with plastic keys with corresponding copper contacts that you insert, this looks like a nice and simple one that controls the cranking ability.

I've done similar things in the past, home made immobilisers if you will.

Not necessarily.

A mate did one where the dongle bit (your three pin key) was very simply wired inline with the immobiliser so it was needed to simply make the connection to turn the immobiliser off! Notacloo how he did it mind, but I do know it was only three connections!

I have the 2 key fob for diaarming the alarm and central locking- which im guessing is a separate unit to the immobiliser? I found a green ecu box next to the window lift ecu behind the globe compartment (whichever ecu that is)

No idea, I always aim for poverty spec machines, much less hassle in the long run as you only have the rust to deal with and not a bunch of electrical faults on top of any mechanical issues.
