Are you talking about the bit of pressed tin on the back of the output flange? If you are then yes there should be a gap but the wider it is the more ****e can get behind it an fook yer seal. You should be able to move it along the flange by levering it with yer bezzy screwdriver, I positioned mine so it was a gnats cock hair off the transferbox housing.
