I've had my Freelander 1.8 a total of 46 hours................. and she's broke down on me!!!:(

Came out of B&Q and she wouldn't start - not even an attempt at turning over the engine. No noise - nothing! So at first I thought it may be the immobiliser not switching off, so I phoned a local Landrover specialist and he told me how to reset the immobiliser. Still nothing, so I phoned the breakdown recovery people. While I waited I had a smoke, then decided to go back into B&Q to get warm. I closed the driverside electric window and thought I'd try once more just on the offchance. Sure enough she started, so I cancelled the breakdown truck and made it home.

Once outside my house I turned the ignition off then tried to start her again. She started no problem at all. So I opened the window and tried again. It made a feeble attempt then went dead and now, like at B&Q, she won't start - the ignition just seems dead.

Can the electric window really affect starting, or is this just coincidence (twice)? If not, what else is the likely culprit??

Hope it's under warranty, our sales manager here had a similar problem on his TD4 a few months back. Needed a complete new wiring loom - luckily it was a warranty job. Guy Salmon wouldn't let him have an RR Sport as a courtesy car though ;)

Needed a complete new wiring loom -

Chr*st I hope not!!!

I did a search on here and saw there have been a few people with exactly the same fault, which appears to be a bad/loose connection to the starter motor. Now...... if only I could find out where the starter motor is I could have a look. Can someone give me a clue please?

this mite help..

I think its a record dude!

I hope ya get it sorted,

Ive just re-read ya thread and it does sound to me like an immobilisor probo the imobilisor is on the key ring I have heard that if you have lots of stuff on ya bunch of keys this could block the signal? dunno if its true?

ok next time it appens , drive the rear window up un down three times , un see if it starts . . .if yes then your fob needs re setting . . .let me know un i'll tell ya how to do it. . .:)

I pulled the wire off the starter motor this morning, gave the terminal a bit of a wipe then refitted the wire. So far no more problems! Phew!!
