I'm looking at buying this 1989 Landie tomorrow with Defender decals and the logbook says Defender. Is it actually a 110? What's the difference between the two models in any case?
Probably both, I think it's a case of going to view it, if it's got a 200tdi in it and it's original then defender it isBuilt or first registered in 89?
All vehicles can suffer from timing belt problems (ask me how I know) if you can't be certain when it was last changed then plan to do it fairly soon, no issues with head gaskets but the 'p' gasket can leak (between block and water pump housing) signs of this are staining at the front of the block behind the alternator which because the water pump is relatively high will cause over heating problems if the fluid level drops. A decent 300 should start without the use of glow plus almost straight away and back pressure from the oil cap or pressurised coolant hoses would point to headgasket / worn engine problesI'll ask which engine it came with - it's been replaced by a 300tdi.
Follow on question - perhaps for a different thread: do these 300s have either overheating or timing belt issues, and if so, how can I assess that when I see it tomorrow? Any other serious issues, like weak head gaskets etc?
The original engine was a turbo diesel which blew and has been replaced by a Disco's 300TDI (with 90,000 miles fyi).
Here's some MOT deets, which I guess refer to the original eng
Don't you mean 'land rover, I wish I'd tried harder at school so I could afford to pay for someone else to fix it'Awesome folks! Really helpful. 'Land Rover: turning owners into mechanics since 1948.' I love it.
So is it correct to say the 110 and Defender original specs were unchanged '89 to '90 except for the badges?
