hi all
ive had my rangie for 8 years with no big problems(unlike others) but have just noticed that the headlight wipers dont work when lights on and washer used,
i checked the fuse and found out that it was removed. replaced it, and with lights on pressed the washers, and passenger wiper worked and stopped but drivers side worked and kept going ,wiping and washing until i removed the fuse again ,
my question is;
is the on off switch in the headlight motor,therefore by replacing the motor problem solved?

The control will be in the BECM, so you won't have much luck tinckering around in there.

However some outputs are high when off, i.e. 12V output to relay turns motor off, so would be worthwhile tracing the wires from the BECM to the wiper motor and checking for good connections, a bad connection or and earthed connection could be spoiling your party. Do you have the ETM?

I suppose you could surmise that the fuse has been removed for the last 8 years,a nd that this fault occured early int he vehicles life? Which tends to rule out corroded terminals...

on looking at rave i have found out that the right headlight wiper motor(m157)
and the left wiper motor(m156) are both fed from the fuse box relay 11 linked given that the left hand works properly i can only assume that either the switch inside the motor has failed or that there is a break or bad connection in the lgu wire from pin 1 on c175 to pin 2 on c190 or into motor its self?

Electrical Troubleshooting Manual, which obviously you do have.

Yes would agree with your analysis, the wiper motor is clearly a bit more complicated than a simple motor. Either pull apart and fix or look out for one on a breaker.

have removed and fitted replacement everything now working properly
clean headlights all the time now. yipee
