Well I have checked the play in the steering tonight with the engine on and found the play to be around 5 degrees so more than happy with that.... think my next weekend off will involve half a day under the old girl checking all bushes. I came to the conclusion the watts linkage needed inspection for one of my other issues so I have a feeling what the issue might be.... here is hoping it’s just one and not many. Thanks for all your help guys

If you do decide to spend some time under the front wheel arches, looking into the engine bay, it might be an idea to take a little time looking at all the pipes there are there. Lots of them can end up in places where they rub/chafe. A bit of split garden hose and a cable tie or two can stave off problems in the future. Worth doing both sides!;););)

Thanks for the idea, will check. The problem will be the adjuster screw (I could already reach the locknut) as the ace pipe is just above it and it has the be adjusted from the top (hex head screw).
If it is a hex-head screw and it is close enough to be a problem to turn it with a spanner, then it is close enough to be rubbing constantly on it, so you'd end up chafing through and losing ACE fluid. See previous post! Maybe it isn't a hex-head screw, do you mean an Allen key type hex?
To be totally honest I would imagine with deft use of a jack on the sump and a big of pushing you could probably carefully jack the engine up a tiny bit to give yourself a bit of room and there are bound to be flexible pipes in the ACE system which would allow some movement too.

If all else fails, you'd have to take the belt off and move the pump, Wonder what RAVE says? (I haven't looked!)

Sorry you are right, Allen key type. I have about 10mm between the top of screw and bottom pipe of ACE pump (which is rigid one).
Rave does not tell anything as it, I think, tells how to do it on a RHD.
Anyway, once I will remove the belt, move the pump a bit and adjust the pump....If I can move the ACE pump a few mm to the front, that would be enough to give room to insert the allen key and adjust.
