Got an irritating problem with my P38. It seems to have rusty water permanantly appearing on the drivers side side step. I wipe it away and the following morning it's back again, even if the car hasnt moved. Have looked underneath and there is no clue as to where it's appearing from - Nothing looks rusty, but it's sure as hell coming from somewhere.

Any thoughts?......

Are your door hinges et al lubed with a copper grease?? As it may be running down with the rain water....

Also the sunroof drains run down the A pillar and expell near the front door A pillar too, so may be there is something in the sunroof well discolouring the rain water....

This obviously assumes it has been raining....

If not from rain, then I am not so sure, they only other thing I can think of is a well of water inside the door, dripping out...

From the drains in the bottom of the door?

I have to say that's getting a bit picky, petrol P38's usually have lots of dirty water coming out of the RAD, engine, expansion tank etc:p

The easy way to cure it is to shove the horse out in the field, they are water proof, and put the P38 in the stable because they are not. It will then soon dry out LOL.

It's annoying me something chronic!! I'll check the door hinges for copper grease - failing that I'll have to just live with it! :D

If you look under the bottom edge of the door Andrea, you will see some rectagular slots, poke a bit of wire coat hanger into them to see they are blocked, you may have a door full of water:)
 
Heater matrix O rings leaking? check that the drivers carpet is not wet and the engine is not losing coolant.

Awwww Sheeeet..........
:eek: nail on the head Ovalandrover :doh: driver floorpan carpet is wet and OH had been scratching his head about the disappearance of the coolant fluid :eek: looks like the dash will be coming out then....................gah :doh:

Can be done without taking the dash out Andrea, lots of threads on the short cuts:D Dry it out quick before it gets to the BECM.

There is a link on the thread:- "quick on heater O rings" from HUSH I tried to transfer the link but it didn't work.

Before you decide to go down the short cut route do a full test on the internal HEVAC functions. In particular check that all the blend motors and both fans are going their thing. If not dash may need to come out anyway.

Still no need to remove dash to do the blend motors, it is a squeeze but can be done with a bit of fettling....

Not sure about the fan motors though!!
 
Did you get the newer type bolt to hold it all together too??

The newer one I think is an Allen bolt...but can't be sure.
 
All done, One of the O rings had a split in it, the other was in 5 pieces!

Leak stopped, rusty water gone and coolant staying where it should.

Thanks to all who pointed me in the direction of the photos guide on here - It was invaluable :D
