The rear electric windows on my 1996 disco don't seem to work when i get in the car and start it but once i have been driving for a bit they start working!!!
Any ideas what the likely problem is that's causing this?

Iffy window ECU maybe, just search for more info on that it's a common fault if it is the problem..

Had a similar problem on my classic and a mate has had the same on his turned out to be switches try swopping front switch for back one and see if that cures problem if it is just replace switches

Where abouts is the window ecu located ?

The ecu lives behind the glove compartment. The problem is usually caused by dry (cracked) solder joints on the circuit board. You need to take off the glove compartment, remove the ecu from its case and re-solder the offending joint(s). Its an easy and very cheap fix. There's a how to guide somewhere with pictures. I'll see if I can find a link.

Had the same problem with mine and fixed them in 20 minutes despite being useless with a soldering iron. Very easy fix.

Pulled the window ecu out and found a dry joint on the circuit board. Resoldered and the windows all work now! :):):):):):):):):):)
