Can someone help out here ,I am trying to download a wiring diagram for my disco td5 2001. The Rave cd which I am in , lists 2000MY -2nd Edition LHD is that left hand drive and up to that year 2000?
Or is the other option 2003 MY (WHAT EVER MY IS ), excuse my ignorance!- 2nd edition NAS
My problem is finding a fault with the interior lights , they work , but not with the doors opening and closing , ----that old one !

The Rave file I use has Model Year 200o English and Export and Model Year 2003 English and Export.
MY 2000 would obviously be best for you.
MY is Model Year.

Have they ever worked on the doors? do they work if you unlock using the fob?

Amazing response, thanks , yes they have worked till recently, manually ok just now , but not with key fob or door opening . I have had to weld the scuttle panel recently as the bonnet hinge mounts were rotted through. There was a lot of water and consequently , still going through a lot of drying out . The headers down on the piller near passenger footwell showed slight corrosion , so have cleaned all this up and tested continuity, but perhaps not the right colours. I have tried door switches by leaving them half open and locking , so each time the horn sounds to alert a half open door , so that is fine .On going , Im afraid , any clues?
 
Also check the earth connection, which is part of the circuit at the lamp itself. I seem to remember my front light not working correctly after I had left off the earth after a sunroof repair (headlining out)

earth is no factor in this case cos as the OP said

they have permannent feed and te automatic function works with earth path from the BCU which should come on that PU wire through C0484

As sierrafery has already said, the courtesy lights are fed with a permanent +12 volts and the switching is done on the earth side of the circuit, either by the ordinary switch on the light fitting or by the BCU which has both a timing and a dimming circuit in it to switch the lights off 'slowly' when the doors are closed.
 
Many Thanks , I will get on the case now, fingers crossed, I have already located these plugs and cleaned up any corrosion , even got one wire separated from location , managed to clean and bare the end put some solder on it and pushed it back in , tested it end for end on the plug and seems ok . I dont think it was no. 16 though , so I'm back out there today.

Ok according to the grey plug on my disco it appears that pu wire is 18 ,so looking at example , bottom right of plug face . If this is the wire and its the one I had to reconnect should this be earthing out the lamp.when plugged to the male grey connector there is contiuinity.
The earth is connected within thefront courtesy lamp.
 
That PU wire is the earth path from the BCU C0663 - 9 which will come into action only on BCU command for automatic lamps operation otherwise it's "empty"... if you can understand a diagram watch it and you'll see

Ok I have tried to study this, if I make a temporary connection from the back of the grey plug on the male side the interior does indeed come on.I can also get continuity to same pu wire into Bcu (black box?) I get the feeling its lost through to the otherside , unless I have activate the ignition off and on a few times .[GALLERY=][/GALLERY]

Aha!
Ok if your seeing the small screwdriver this is the male side of connector opposite to PU .
This is where I get contiunity to BCU.

BINGO , Success, thanks for pointing me in the right direction everyone.
The system needed activated by the ignition/engine on , then when I switched off all was fine , interior light energised!

Next resolve is to get the BCU energised to accept my heated window, my diagnostic will not enable it . I have had a heated windscreen in place with all the wiring and relays , switch in dash etc , but has never worked . My diagnostic will see the switch turn on but cant enable. I know its a case of going to a dealer but its so expensive , especially if they cant do it..I have very comprehensive diagnostic but I guess L/R are still holding on to there software.
 
From what I can see of your diagnosis, you've tried:-
  • The door switches which are integral to the door latches and also part of the intruder alarm system and they are all checking out OK.
  • The switches on the light fittings which confirms that the earth connection at the fitting is OK and the permanent 12 volt feed to the lights is also OK.
  • The wiring from the grey plug on the BCU to the lights and that appears to be OK, having touched an earth on it with your little screwdriver the lights worked.
Sadly, in my opinion, that leaves just one final element in the circuit; the BCU, unless there is a problem with the grey plug where for instance the PU (Purple/Brown) wire has broken away or the pin/socket system inside the plug has become faulty due to corrosion or somehow somebody has put the PU wire in the wrong hole in the grey plug.
"And we all know how dangerous it putting it in the wrong hole" :D
I'm pretty sure that the heated screen is one of the circuits that can be enabled with a Nanocom.
It looks like we all forgot about the timer in the BCU which switches the interior lights off if the doors are left open too long, until the ignition is activated again. I've fallen foul of that one too.

OK , thanks for your help out there, I guess you must have missed my success at the start of my last thread , especially if you picked up on my heated screen issue. I will have to put a plea out there if anyone near has Nanocom .
