Say you somehow managed to get it catastrophically wrong while off road or green laning, Where do you stand from an insurance point of view? Do they cover you when you are off of the road and with green lanes technically still part of the highway, are you covered on them?
 
Green lanes yes, off road - depends on the insurer... of course you could have rolled your motor on the road (just by chance outside the gates of the pay and play site) similar to breakdown services!
 
Mine's insured with Bell Direct and they also cover Green Lanes.

It's worth just checking with your insurer. Strictly speaking they are public highways so there shouldn't be a problem but it'd be wise to get confirmation in writing too if possible to stop them trying to wriggle out of anything if you ever need it.

Not sure if it still counts as a public highway if it's got a TRO on it though (but you shouldn't be on it then in any case).

This is a funny one...

the way I see it (of course insurance and recovery companies see it the other way) a green lane is just a road like any other, only difference is its an unsurfaced road..
but still...a road!

to drive on green lanes you need insurance, tax and mot and be fully legal, just like on any other road.
So it shouldnt make a difference...

but if you call the recovery service to get you from the middle of salisbury plain (even though you are on a green lane) they'll be likely to say you are off roading and wont recover you..

yes me to they cover off road and lanes as standerd, and they do a top class break down service for 35 a year, iv used it 5 times 2 for a trailer tent on the same day and 3 where the disco is full of mud and i do mean full of mud,,,,

Thats exactly how I see it as well, and I dare say that the courts would too.

Don't let your insurance company try and charge you extra for 'green lane cover', as several of them do.
 
i have to say, cannot praise Adrian flux enough! break down cover was great last year when i broke down twice in the uk, then twice in france!! within a week!! also had small accident reversing off drive... nearly wrote off the other car, no damage to my lovely off course, and didnt even have to pay an excess! and oh yes, do cover for off roading!!
