Well,

today I finally decided to get my spare tyre in the Defender, opposed to sit in the garage...

I've had the spare since I bought the disco as it came with it, so when I swapped the tyres to the 90, the spare was swappped too.

So today, I put the spare against one of the Insa special tracks and its a lot smaller! probably 2inch or something like that.... massive difference

the tyres on the Defender are 265/75 R16 Insa turbos special tracks
and the spare is a BFG Mud terrain 265/75 R16

Ive never had a puncture, so never had to put it on, but now I realise that if i ever have a puncture, the spare will be too small....

The Insa turbos are uni directional, so ideally I would be looking at a tyre that isnt, like the BFG I have...

so to be the same size as the Insas, should I go for a 85 tyre?

Does anyone run Insa special tracks, and if you do what spare do you have?

Cheers

i had the same trouble with my recip trails.they 19mm of tread on and came up fookin huge.265/75/16 more like 285/85/16.I too have directional so have a got an 85 profile bfg at for a spare. It is fine on size if a little rich for a spare but it will go on all 4 corners if required.

currently running on 265/75 colways (same as insa saharas) and found them a little larger than my bfg spare so currently carrying an old 7.50 winter tyre on a defender rim as a spare.

but the problem is the Insa turbos are unidirectional...

So I could get one fitted and it would work fine if I had a puncture on, lets say, the left hand side, but that tyre would be the wrong way round to fit on the right side...

isnt that right?

is what i was thinkin too, you can run one backwards if need be but the best option would be to carry 2 spares (one for each side).

i got m tyres as a set of 4 and have a few 7.50 tyres that i took off the 110 when i bought it so will just keep them as i dont think they are worth putting on eblag :)

yea, but there's a 50/50 chance it'd be right and if it were wrong it'd still get yer home or to a tyre place to get it swapped.

yeh.. i understand what you saying...

might actually be cheaper to buy another insa special track on 265 75 than going for a 85 tyre...

I've got 5 265/75 Special Tracks. The spare is fitted for the near side (you get more punctures that side). If I get a puncture on the off side, I'll fit it and drive slowly!
