Hi All I had problems with rough running rough idling ,a friend told me to do a leak off test . Yep had three injectors overfuelling . Had to keep driving her until one afternoon bang awful knocking and i mean clouds of grey/white smoke , Had to get towed back .
so i had to remove the covers etc ,
TIP
I didnt know that the two 13 mm nuts undone easily and then you can remove the cabin filter assembly so easily .WOW the number of times ive struggled getting at 456 was unbelievable .Removed its so so easy .
thankfully the injectors came out ok but i managed to snap off one of those stupid plastic leak off tees . I had to order off ebay
TIP
order a set in off ebay at 5.99 its cheap insurance '
when the manifold was off all the vacuum pipes had deteriorated so badly the vacuum was escaping all the time . I managed to buy some locally but only in meter lengths. So i had to join them with some brake pipe to get going . The pipes had melted over the engine so id advise to check them
TIP
buy some 4 mm vacuum hose off ebay just in case plus you can use as leak off pipe .
I've never liked the egr system and had thought about blanking it off . But the housing was clean and with the hose disconnected it cant open so i think now its deleted without any major modification .
I thought id cracked it but once assembled i had horrific diesel leakage . Id made sure the leak off pipe was good and tightened all the injector nuts and used new injector copper washers and new o rings . Had to remove the inlet manifold again and cleaned everything up and ran her again . Eventually I found out the cause . Id used second injectors and the leak wasnt from the union nuts nut the "connector" it fits onto that screws into the injector body . I took them out used loctite and hey ho problem solved . I think when they were undone from the other engine they were so tight the "connector" moved slightly allowing diesel to leak out .
Tip
check the connectors on second hand injectors before fitting .

As the vacuum pump works less hard and ive put a u bend of pipe to seal off vacuum outlets my brakes have suddenly come right to the top . Odd but true

I expect you all know about the above but id wish id checked on here before doing the job . By goodness id wish id known about the cabin filter box coming out so easily ,its a life savour .

one more thing ,anyone else found out how easily spanners sockets etc fall down between the radiator and engine and get lodged in so many different hidey holes or is it just my cagey handed way of working
Tip
buy a magnetic pick up tool in advance lol

Being new to a TD6 myself, I didn't know about the airbox trick. Will keep that in mind for the next time I'm threatening to set fire to the truck.

Thanks for the tip 😃

Bonnet in service mode and plenum champer out makes a world of difference when doing engine work!
