Hi there,

The last week or so, ive had a intermittent problem with my left hand indicators. The indicators flash twice as fast on the left, showing there is a bulb out. So walk round to the rear of the land rover. Tap the rear indicator and it works again temporarily. But the same also happens to the front left one.

I cant really work out why a simple tap can sort it temporarily, drive half a mile okay, and then the problem will be back again at the next junction. Its starting to annoy me.

Any thoughts fellas. Its a 96 defender

they get corroded and have bad earths or pos connections.

they also get too hot and melt the plastic holder making the bulb move a bit.

they are basically pants! the old series jobbies were proper galved things..

Had this egsact same thing the other week and if you go under the bonnet to where the n/s/f headlight is somewhere in amongst the wiring there is a bullet type wire connector leading to the indicator what was hanging out of the connector pushed it back in and no problem since, hope this helps :)

Cheers fellas. I'll try that Cornish rattler. I havent had the LR long, but in the 100 mile i drove it home, it didnt happen once. So has come on at random.

Would it be worth changing the bulb holders do you think? A tap seems to solve it, the holders look fine though :S

Not sure really as at the time i had probs with the lights straight from picking it up from the p.o's in February this year till up to about a month ago but think in my case it was because the 90 had been stood a while before i bought it and needed using but the front indicator worked a couple of times after i tapped it then stopped working altogether then i decided to look at the indicator from under the bonnet but its very fiddly as you can't see what you are doing but i found it by chance and somehow managed to push it in but does sound like you have the same problem i had :)

Same issue on mine was the actual holders that had coroded and cracked, not much to replace and problem solved :)
