After breaking my 3' breaker (1/2" drive) on the fly wheel mounting bolts (2.5 diesel), I wondered whether to buy a 3/4" breaker or impact gun.
Ended up with a £55 240v gun (the 3/4" breaker and socket was only a couple of quid cheaper).

The gun undid all the bolts in about 45 seconds, didn't even need to lock the flywheel (how does that work? I managed to bend the first bar used to lock the flywheel!)

I'm so happy that I'm going to use it for everything from now on; can you get attachments to help with every day activities like undoing jars or masturbation?

its because unlike drill or air ratchet,which use torque ,gun uses hammer effect in the same way as if you used a chisel and hammer to knock bolt round it doesnt impart much torque ,be careful till your used to it doing things up as it can if held on long enough shear bolts/strip threads,great for any job where you would need to lock something like crank pulley or water pump pulley bolts etc
 
It is a Clarke 1000w.

You may call it a hammer effect, but I call it magic and will worship it from now on.
 
you imagine how goood snap on battery gun is then i have 3 sizes 1/4 drive 3/16 drive and 1/2 for stuff stuff ,even the most stubborn of stuff can be held by hand to undo it
 
I'd not thought about tightening things with it; the label says 450Nm, does that mean that it can only tighten to that figure 'cos that seems massive.

Do snap-on ones have a variable torque control?
 
Yep, that's that one. Prices do seem to vary.

I 've got a compressor in the workshop but it too far to run a line to the garage, so electric had to do.
 
if its as goood as you say and the write up on link ,somethinmg like that would be a must for diyer especially as crank holding tool is more expensive,all the front pulleys ,diff flanges and t.box flanges at a fraction of cost (£400) snap on ,maybe not stand constant use but ,you can get different torque sockets that will only allow gun to tighten to that given torque ,but snap on arent variable torque as they are hammer action so depends on how long you hold your finger on trigger ,it does have two large weights that actually hammer shaft round , it will struggle more with anything springy like radius arm nuts as some hammer effect is lost through bushes
 
Not saying it is quality or long lived but it got me out of a hole and I'm hoping it will do the same for the crank nut when I do the timing belt.

The manual says something about the brushes being replaceable but I hope with the minimal use i will give it, it will be around for a while.
 
i love my 1/2 " snap on gun , expensive but love it , upgrading the battreys to lithium ion asap .
 
iv got the clarke battery one, and theres noting it hasnt done yet im well chuffed with it. may look into one of these just for the workshop :)
