Evening guys and girls.

I am after a little help before I do something stupid like selling my disco and getting a car.

The disco in question is a w reg TD5 manual with around 130000 miles on the clock.

The current problem is one of immobilization.
After a 5 mile drive this morning I parked up and locked the disco as usual, went back 20 or so minutes later and the key fob would not unlock it.
No problem, ill just unlock it with the key and then use the fob. Wrong.
No problem, ill just put a new battery in the fob. Wrong.
No problem, ill try another battery in the fob. Wrong.
No problem, ill use the key code method, turn right x times, then left etc etc. Wrong.

Now in an act of desperation I called the RAC (yes I know I should do all the work myself, but I draw the line at auto electrics!) Anyway, long story short, my beloved disco is still immobilized and unless I can find a cheap way of getting it going again, I may finally have to suffer the pain of a discovery divorce, which given the time spent keeping the dam thing on the road, I would rather not do.

Given the list of broken components, I think I had a Friday afternoon special :(

For a laugh, this is, off the top of my head, what has been replaced in 4 years of ownership.

Power steering box, drag linkage, all bushes and linkages for and aft, ace pipes, head gasket, gearbox, all calipers, rear air suspension to spring conversion, water pump, alternator, starter motor, fuel pump, fuel regulator, clutch pipe, clutch master cylinder, steering damper, horns, front propshaft and probably many more that I have forgotten.

I service it at the recommended intervals, even to the point of axle oils and greasing the prop etc, so its well looked after, but still lets me down on an almost weekly basis.

So, please, can any one help me get my disco going again, please stop me from going and buying a normal car!
My last idea, that as yet I have not tried, is seeing if I can get a new key fob programmed in, as the RAC man said that mine were not being recognised by the receiver?

Many thanks

okay, so I understood that the fob doesn't affect anything but
1. didn't the alarm go off after you opened with the key? ...as you didn't mention that

2. is the alarm LED constantly on when you turn the ignition to crank?

3. if for 1 and/or 2 is yes forget about the tester as while it's immobilised it won't communicate with it

4. replace the roof receiver to rule it out as that's the most common, here you have some info(read 433Mhz instead of 315 ant the rest is the same) http://www.landroverclubvi.com/uplo...odule_troubleshooting_and_upgrade8610nasf.pdf

Many thanks for the replies so far.

Yes, the alarm does sound if I unlock the door with the key and open it. And the dash LED flashes repeatedly.
If I put the key in the ignition and try to start it, even after the alarm has stopped sounding and the LED has stopped flashing it will not turn over, it is completely immobilized.

then go for the roof receiver first, it's plug and play...how many times did you try the EKA code? and what's going wrong with it?

Hi Sierrafery, I tried the code twice. Got the single sound of the horn (turn right for 5 seconds) then entered the combination and got a single sound of the horn indicating the code had not been accepted as opposed to a double sound if it had of worked.

Ill give the receiver a go first then.

Many thanks

Try getting it towed a few hundred yards away from where you have it at present. My D2 did exactly the same twice when I parked close to a high voltage underground cable. The first time I got it restarted after the adjacent factory started to close down, the second time I had some of the factory lads push me down the lane and away from the cable. They mentioned that they have had a few other cars behave in a similar way when they park outside. Also heard that some mast can cause issues with alarms.

Again, thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming :)

The Disco is parked in the same place it has been for the last 4 months, asked the neighbours if they have had new door bells, wi-fi etc fitted lately, but they had not.

I had this problem Last years . I took out the remote reservoir in the roof . Cleaned the loom plug out with electric contact cleaner and left it in a warm place over night as it seemed damp from condensation . Refitted next day all worked again . Even refitted it with a little silica packet fitted in the little black box to help it happening again . Easy to get out its in front of rear sunroof just off to the passenger side .
