Evening guys and girls.
I am after a little help before I do something stupid like selling my disco and getting a car.
The disco in question is a w reg TD5 manual with around 130000 miles on the clock.
The current problem is one of immobilization.
After a 5 mile drive this morning I parked up and locked the disco as usual, went back 20 or so minutes later and the key fob would not unlock it.
No problem, ill just unlock it with the key and then use the fob. Wrong.
No problem, ill just put a new battery in the fob. Wrong.
No problem, ill try another battery in the fob. Wrong.
No problem, ill use the key code method, turn right x times, then left etc etc. Wrong.
Now in an act of desperation I called the RAC (yes I know I should do all the work myself, but I draw the line at auto electrics!) Anyway, long story short, my beloved disco is still immobilized and unless I can find a cheap way of getting it going again, I may finally have to suffer the pain of a discovery divorce, which given the time spent keeping the dam thing on the road, I would rather not do.
Given the list of broken components, I think I had a Friday afternoon special
For a laugh, this is, off the top of my head, what has been replaced in 4 years of ownership.
Power steering box, drag linkage, all bushes and linkages for and aft, ace pipes, head gasket, gearbox, all calipers, rear air suspension to spring conversion, water pump, alternator, starter motor, fuel pump, fuel regulator, clutch pipe, clutch master cylinder, steering damper, horns, front propshaft and probably many more that I have forgotten.
I service it at the recommended intervals, even to the point of axle oils and greasing the prop etc, so its well looked after, but still lets me down on an almost weekly basis.
So, please, can any one help me get my disco going again, please stop me from going and buying a normal car!
My last idea, that as yet I have not tried, is seeing if I can get a new key fob programmed in, as the RAC man said that mine were not being recognised by the receiver?
Many thanks
Shirl
