Hi

Ive just discovered this forum in a desperate attempt to find out what to do about immobiliser. I recently replaced my disco for another which has central locking and immobiliser (never had this before) I have very limited mechanical knowledge but need and love my landy as I have horses. Its a Tdi 2.5 1993, the problem is for a while sometime its slow to open the doors off the key fob and sometimes I have to keep pushing the button to lock the doors, but today I has failed to open at all. The light comes on on the fob when pushing button and the red light is flashing on the dash. I had RAC out and he discharged the battery but this did nothing. The central locking still works when using the key, but alarm goes off and car wont start. Someone told me to open driver window then take earth off battery for 12 secs, replace then start and that was meant to turn immobiliser off, but it didnt work.

Cant seem to find out how to over ride it?? My mechanic who normally works on range rovers says he had never had to over ride one so doesn't no how to do it. Ive been told to go under steering column and connect the brown wire to the thick white wire, is this correct??

The rac man said the fob was giving out a signal when he tested it, so does it mean the unit is at fault?

Ive read other peoples posts but dont understand what a spider is or if its applicable to my model.

Would really appreciate some advise on what to do? should i over ride it and how? would also be great if any advise could be in very basic speak as I have very limited knowledge.

Thank you very much for reading this and apologises for sounding like a dumb blonde who probably doesnt deserve a disco.

Harry (female by the way, if you hadnt guessed)

I had this problem about 4 weeks ago, exactly the same as you are having, some times it would take 3 or 4 presses of the remote (light was coming on) until the car unlocked.

I had the remote to pieces and found that one of the battery cage legs had snapped off the board (the cage connects to 3 parts of the board, and it needs all of the outer cage legas to be connected to work properly), I resoldered it back on and all worked again off the button everytime. Have a close inspection inside your key fob.

P.S. Harry the Spider is a device behind the Stereo, you need to remove the stereo and the heater controls to get to it, try the fob first and if it isn't that then you may need an Auto Electrician to sort out the Spider.

P.P.S. The spider is the control unit for the Central locking and immobisor, they are a common roblem aswell and can either be replaced (Expensive) or shorted out to stop them working.

P.P.P.S. Where are you from by the way ;-)

Lots of Peeeeing going on here, lol

Thanks for that simon, am now wondering if its the fob, when i got my keys out of my bag yesterday the button was pressed in and under a bit and i could see the board inside, so seems unlikely by the sound of it that its all in contact, so will take a look.

Im in Surrey :)

No Problem,

Surrey a little far for me to come and have a look for you, haha

So you are in to the aquestrian sports then, are your horses for pleasure or shows?
