Well I'm glad your all agreed on this as I need to buy a new front prop,
(sildey bits all worn out)
 
I would not necessarily take it for granted that it is a land rover one, if you send me the measurements i will compare with mine.
 
From flange to flange it's 107in long, at the transfer end it has a double yolk, is that normal? Hell, I didnt think about the ratios, wonder if thats why the splines have so much play, should'nt each diff housing have a metal tag with the ratios stamped on it?

107" are you sure, cos your wheel base is only 109" with that you could probabley join your axels together.

If your diff ratios have probabley caused that as you front diff ratio is probabley lower than the back, so your front prop will be turning faster than the back.

I've never seen a tag with the ratios on.

If i where you i would find an orrignal salsberry axel to go on the back, as thats what would have been on.
 
Right just had a measure and it's about 60Cm, so it looks like a nother case of land rover hybrid, of witch i have first hand experience of, its never easy.
 
Thanks, today has been quite eventful, Ive a this week off work an saw the
postman who commented "I see you've got old So an So's land rover.
I said yes but it's turning out to be a problem, then followed a general chit chat
an it turns out that a garage 50 klms away did the conversion. When I get the chance I`ll pop over an have a chat with with them
 
that rear axle looks like an ENV used on the one ton and FC. So it is a LR one but I don't believe it was ever used on the stage one.

ENV's were often used as a mod to trialers as they are somehwat more robust than standard diffs

I've had a chat with the guy who did the conversion and your right it is a LR axel,
Turns outthe beasti is a Spanish LR which came standard with a 3.5ltr 6 pot it's domination is a LD Cazorla Station wagon which had beefed up axels and leafs,
The front prop turns out to be Nissan rear half cut an shut with a Ld front half, I did'nt get to talk with the guy for to long as he was busy, we've arranged for lunch next week (me paying) I intend to milk him for all the gory details, one thing I have noticed is the Nissan engine and box combination works really well, it has loads of low down torque which is what I need,

that seems a very hard and long winded way of making a hybrid!
some peeps really do have more money than sense.
 
The biggest prob i find when working on hybrids is the person who did the conversion, never thinks about what happens when it comes to some one else repairing it.
 
aye it would be nice to find documentary evidence and a build diary etc being kept alongside the logbook old mot/s etc..
 
I have the same comment on wiring issues (see loom fred) - It's easy to wire everything with mains cable/trailer cable/shotgun light cable - but you try identifying summat afterwards.
I am (as some of you know) the proud owner of a GT40 replica - the main work is documenting all the bills and trying to build some form of workshop manual, but it is worth its weight on gold when you need to work on it years after you built it.
