Alright! What I'm going to do is buy a hiclone to put in the pipe between my air filter and my engine, just to see what it does. After that, I'll keep her running for as a long as I can and then buy a newer one with a quicker engine in a few years time.

Basically, dont waste your money. If your happy with a NA, stick with it, if not, get a TDI.

Besides, hiclones only "work" with turbocharged engines..or did I dream that?
 
i have got 2 landys now. a 2.25 series 3 diesel n/a and a 300tdi defender . both are long wheelbases . and i always stall the sereis 3 after driving the tdi for any length. but i love em both
 
the 2.25 na eh ? well i bought it off my mate for 200quid its a series 3 109 hard top ex mil. i flushed out the engine and changed all filters and it runs nice now. then i flushed out the rad and reflled with rad weld ( prevents rust ) antifreeze and water . all together its cost me just over 300 quid and i find myself with a comfy very aible off roader. when i got it it had new seats and a recon engine that had stood still for ages. but it started first time. we towed it up the road behind the forward control !!! ( funny at the time ) i also re wired it myself. it has a split charge. curently in the middle of re painting it drab olive cos some nob painted it hamarite lime . nearly finished now just gota paint the roof at the weekend . cant wait to get the bastard finished and go greenlaning.

thew 2.25 is a lovely lil engine. but like all naturally aspirateds its gutless in top gear. however in low gears ( low range ) its very torquey and is great at a hill climb . just service it regularly. however the 300 tdi is a beast compared to it it climbs the same hill in high range second gear. dads got a 2.5 naturally aspirated 110 tho another exmilitary. very similar to the 2.25
 
Cool. I thought that the 2.25 might have been really underpowered. What's the top speed you can manage to get out of it? Oh, and I've gone and bought a bloody hiclone, so I'll let y'all know how it goes!
 
Im sure I remember years ago seeing an addvert in a car mag for a cheap little add on turbo, I seem to recall it was powered by an electric motor some way or other and that it gave a mild boost to your motor without the risk of damaging the engine. Does anyone else recall this ? or am I dreaming it !
 
FFS !!!! Slob, where did they all come from !! the one I am thinking about must have been one of the first ones made cos it was years and years ago, I guess the next question must be does anyone know if they work or is it just aload of old bollocks.
 
When you work out the sheer POWER required to drive a turbo's compressor, you'll soon realise that those electric things are like Riggaz's snake-oil potions.

The exhaust side turbine of a typical Landy 2.5 diesel will certainly be making at least 5 or 6 BHP when it is working hard and compressing a full speed charge at full pressure. If one of those daft electric things had a motor of an EIGHTH hp I would be surprised. Easy way to check.

750 watts is ONE hp.

750 watts at 12 volts means a current of over SIXTY amps! For ONE hp.
Like we are needing a fat cable to carry that load.
Now try 5 bhp leccy .... say 300 amps .... starter motor cable should nearly cope.

So what CURRENT does the leccy thing draw? 10 amps? 20?
20 amps at 12 volts = 240 watts, or one-third hp.
Dream on for feeling the surge of power ....
Do they actually CLAIM their things make more power?

Don't spend money on trash.
