Hi All, I have recently fitted some side steps to my Disco 2 as my pregnant wife was struggling to get in and out, to be fair I think she was actually hinting at a new car, but that fell on deaf ears.
My problem is that I live in a dark area and the black rubber steps are hard to see. My cunning plan is to fit an orange LED strip above the step, but the problem is the best way to power them. My first thought was to the interior light so that they came on when I remotely opened the car and also when the door was open. The issue with this is they would also come on if we turned the interior light on while driving.
Has anybody any ideas on where I could get a feed that triggers when the remote locking is opened, I could then hold this with a thyristor.
Any thoughts or better solutions greatly received.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi

why not go for P38 puddle lights - they fit on the underside of the door so will illuminate as soon as you unlock with the fob (as long as that also triggers your interior light) and won't be a distraction when driving

I have a feed from my interior light, that lights up external lights when you unlock and also when the doors are open.

Took the feed from the front interior light, and it doesn't switch on if you put on the internal light independently.

Just make sure you have a voltmeter to get the right wires, as easy to tell - just get the positive when the doors are open, and then run a ground from wherever the lights are.

^^^ almost good:rolleyes:, just that the other way around;) ..the fact is that you'll get permannent positive feed there cos the switch and the BCU are providing the earth path...the easyest access point to get the courtesy light earth path from BCU for unlock/open door command is at connector C0484 pin 16(PU - purple/blue trace wire)...see pic, and it will not work on the manual switch this way... and get the live from pin 13(purple wire)...that's all
