Well guys don't if it's the bad weather but now my trusted p38 is going off on one

I can't lock the car remotley because I have noticed That as I'm getting out of the car the message board states "Ignition Key in"

It only happend today, but just wondered if anyone else has had this happen to them, The last message that used to ping up was "traction failure" but that was due to the battery needing charging and was fine after that

Do you think this could also be part of the battery being weak?

Lots of threads on this, put some graphite lock lube down the lock barrel and wiggle the key about a bit. As a last resort a squirt of WD40 will also do it.

Thanks Datatek,

Just come in after putting in WD40 and it has cured the problem.
I was all made up and was just going to let you all know I fixed it, but you beat me to it!!
Thanx anyway.

Maybe worth a gentle squirt from an air line too. WD40 can encourage clog-up after it has moved the dirt around to let the terminals contact again. As far as the low battery is concerned, its worth a check on the alternator too as the electrics do take a battering in this weather and the battery needs to be in tip top condition.

Thanks Hippo, I know what you mean, meant to say that 3 weeks ago alty died and then so did the car, checked it out and had it repaired...only the brushes were worn out. Only cost £45 to repair in specialists, But think I will be put battery on from other car as it's not stronger enough for that car but ok for Rangie

No need to spray deep into barrel. The problem is the small shutter type door at the very start of the barrel sticking open. If you have message on just tap barrel and watch door drop down.A very small amount of lub is needed only not a flood. Silicone oil or WD40.

You could have done it yourself for the price of the brush set and regulator, about £20.00.

Yes wammers I do agree with you but unfortunately due to some serious health issues I couldn't do it myself due to the cold bad weather. (don't have much of an immune system lately!!)
