Hi ya, I am about to get my self my first landy and it's got to be a disco! I want a 300tdi of if I am lucky enough to find a good 1 with in my price rande a td5 :) it's going to be my every day car but i also want it to be a green lane animal.
I have a few mods planned and I would like your thoughts pls.
Was thinking a

2in lift
snorkel
more aggressive tyres (maybe on a 2nd set of rims)
high level light bar
winch (wanna mod the std bumper to keep it if at all poss)
towing eyes
skid plats covering the breakable bits underneeth
then have some get out of trouble kit like sand boards, hi lift, ground anchor ect either in boot or roof
how much would something like evo suspension be?

can anyone think of anything else that will help me do my perfect landy

Haha yeah I guess it would be a tiny little be over the top for a bit of fern lane lol but what can I say I am a big kid and like toys lol I would like to eventuly do so serious off road playing but 1 step at I time lol.

A good driver can take a standard landy further than a an idiot can take a fully kitted one. Ever heard the saying 'all the gear, no idea'?;)

I disagree.....an idiot will drive into a ditch.....most good drivers would never go that far:p:p:p

Lol.

Ratty has a very valid point, It has been proven many times you can spot an idiot miles off at a pay and play or comp Usually in a kitted up mota with all the equipment and no clue how to use nor drive. If you want to learn to drive join your local club spend 2 years Trialling and you WILL improve your skills beyond most people.

There is No cheat experience only will teach you there is nothing you can throw money at to learn other than getting out there and using your motor. The best offroad driver was a chap at milbrook test grounds he took his Absolutly Standard but well maintained 88 inch anywhere he was a long time Trialler and drove offroad Every day he knew his vehicle inside out and knew its Limits (Ditches mainly) he was a superb driver. Its all down to expoerience and thats somthing you cannot buy or bolt on!

All very good points well made. Looks like I'll just go for some good 50/50 and poss just a snorkel just in case as I rely don't fancy the idea of water in me engine lol

Wot do yu need a snorkle for, if yu are going green laning? Peeps don't walk down a lane with 3 feet if water in it..
Fitting a snorkle without extending breathers and fitting wading plugs will just give a false sense of security and lead to a buggered motor.
A well serviced vehicle, recovery points and a bit of practice with respect for other green lane uses would be if much more use.
Oh - and never go in only one vehicle.

I totally agree you don't need to waste your money.

I brought my first discovery last year, a totally standard 1995 v8 on road tyres and took it to a pay and play site within 2 days and was amazed at where it would go without any mods. I did not need any help all that day.

Did plenty of green lanes and the standard tyres would slide on a muddy slope into ditches so a set of decent AT's cured that.

It even went through plenty of water with no snorkel and the only time the electrics suffered a bit was at the end of a pay and play day I drove through the shallow bit of the lake a few times fast to wash most of the mud off.

Just had to pull up down the road and let the engine idle for a while to dry out.

I have a 300tdi now with AT's and no plans for other mods.

I gave serviced it but need to grease the nipples and check the fuel system but other than that it's done the lanes and off roading with ease.

Just enjoy it for a while and add things as you go. If you have another landy with you when you go out then you can always get out of trouble. Just remember the towing points and some decent straps and rope.

hey tom. if you can afford it and want it. go and get it. this forums full of good experienced advice. but sometimes, learning yourself is a lot of fun. you`ll end up a lot wiser and have your own opinion.
:welcome2: by the way.
