well that threaded bit is the stub axle and its welded. As it goes i don't need to get it off right now as the discs are pitted but they are not dead yet. Looks like i'm going to recondition an axle from scratch with all new seals, discs, pads, brakes lines and steering arms and fit that, all repainted and nice. Bit of a pain in the arse. All fit it all together when I fit my 2" lift kit and new 3 degree radius arms.

sounds a good plan as reasons for previous bodge unclear but would assume something broke but perhaps someone thought it an improvement:doh: get a disco axle as lots around these days and refurb at leisure and just slide it under when ready
 
yea gunna build a new axle put that on then try and fix the old one so I can sell it on again to recoup my costs.
