:confused: Help

I took off my alloys today to put my new steelies and tyres on when I thought that i'd check the hubs over. When I removed the dust cover it appears that my hubs are welded on. Sorry I haven't got a pic I didn't have my camera. There is no circlip to remove it has been welded round. Any Ideas????

Its a TD5 Van 2002 110

nah your ok its the older 90s etc that have the circlips as alloys dont fit the old hubs either but a photo would confirm

standard practice was for peeps too tight to buy new drive flanges and/or shafts is to weld to 2 together - not seen anyone do that for ages
 
ok so next question.

How the feck do I get them off? My haynes only shows the older type. I may be being a knob jockey as I didn't have much time to look. I need to fit new brake discs as I got a cation on my MOT for pitted discs.

oh yea i remember that it has a thread in the centre of it almost like when you weld a nut onto a rounded bolt head.

it might be a good idea to post a pic of the welded item just to make sure we is talking about the same thing

just split the flange where the gasket should be and the shaft will come with it

yes but if its a td5 with original rear axle i thought they had the drive members which the half shaft didnt come through to outside of hub and you only needed to remove the five bolts to seperate
 
ok i'll give it a try i wanted to check before I get me old faithful out and hammer the ****e out of it. I never had a TD5 before so I was confused.com.
 
i'll give it a wack see if it comes off. I did wonder what the point was in the circlip when there arebolts holding it on lol.
 
Hey guys I got some photos of the hubs that look welded. I hit it with a hammer and large screw driver and it moved about 4mm but seems to be stuck. I'm off to get a chisel now to see if i can get it to move the rest of the way. What do you think? I wondered if they might be fused in some way?

see the threaded holes in drum-screw bolts in evenly and they normally come off

don't get a chisel it'll just snap, get a big chunky pry bar - or a crow bar
 
ok guys I can't seem to get the thing off it has moved a little bit won't go anymore. It really looks like it has been welded. I'm starting to get a bit worried now can anyone confirm there hubs look the same as mine and have no circlip.
 
thought sean would have looked at the pics and commented, as what i can see they do look like theyre welded where the circlip should be, so it almost looks like its going to be angle grinder time and lots of new bits as the only way to remove. but sean wiil have more idea than me
