Still having problems with my 97 300tdi disco. Started with the remotes taking ages to work now the alarm goes off and the car remains immobilized. Got to the stage cant really use it. I bought a central locking kit from ebay on hte hope to bypass the immobilizer and alarm. Read up about this spider unit that some have, I did find a green box behind the glove box which has something to do with the alarm. Does this mean it doesn't have a spider? I dont want to start stripping down the dash for nothing. Can anything be done on the green box? ailing this ill have to take it to an auto electrician Im fine with the mechanical stuff just not the electrics all help much appreciated thanks.

Remove the radio head unit and with a mirror on a stick thingy and a torch you can look behind the dash and just see the spider.
300 tdi autos don't seem to have one according to the forums the 97-98 V8s don't either.
Your fob may be faulty, according to Remote key fobs can loose their tune tte for more infoherefore need to be refurbished have a look at their website.

Also take your fob to a local garage and get them to test it for free for you, (tell them you want to know if you need a new battery) this will only tell you the fob is sending out a signal not if its out of tune.

Ok had the dash off and turns out it does have a spider as well as the green box behind the glove box. Anyway got the spier out soldered it and then thought bugger it while its out ill do the bypass. Well now the car is constantly immobilized, after 20mins of hitting the key fob buttons got it to start but again after i removed the keys it had immobilized again. Have I missed something? Even caled an auto electrician but as its factory fitted says it has to go back to Land Rover obviously very costly for an old car. Do I have to buy a new car just because of dodgy old electrics. Please help anyone thanks

You have a passive immobilisiation system so it will remobilise automatically after five minutes delay or 30 seconds after the key is removed or when the vehicle is locked.
All you have to do is present the fob close to the ignition switch and if the system is working correctly the engine will re-mobilise automatically, if this doesn' happen then either the 'spider' or the 'exciter ring' around the switch may have a fault it has been known , it's not always 'spider.
Pressing the fob buttons for "20mins" won't get you anywhere, only drain the fobs battery so nothing will work, the buttons are just for central locking.
The green box is your alarm and central locking ecu.

Is it not possible to bypass the alarm an everything and just use the key to lock and unlock the car? It may well be the key fob as it has been playing up for a while taking ages to unlock the car. But i dont want to spend cash on a new one only for it not to be that. I have just bought the spider bypass from L/R.

No need to bypass the alarm just pull the fuse and power down, if you lucky enough to have a fully function sounder that will sound via it's own backup battery (my sounders battery dieed years ago) but you will also loose the central locking, as you know.
With the above we assume you have bypassed your immobiliser.

Maybe im missing something. Doing the bypass that should be the immobiliser bypassed correct? If I pull the fuse is there away to drain the batter quickly or remove the battery?
Also if I lose the central locking that ok but surly I can then fit an after market one?
I dont want to waste any more cash conditioning the key fobs incase its not that. The missus is already looking at old cars but id be gutted to give up on the old girl. This comes at a bad time as only last month the timing belt shredded but fixed that in 2 days this is dragging on!!

1. Nope, but try it pull the fuse or disconnect the vehicle-battery, reconnecting again will stop it.
2. Yes, just replace the master actuator in the drivers door with the new one and connect the existing slaves and wire the master back to the ecu supplied in the kit
Ok checked all the fuses properly found one out but it was for the headlight washers. Tried unplugging the two alarm fuses and disconnecting the alarm but when I tried the car it would not turn over so looks like the immobiliser is still kicking in even after the so called bypass. Im running out of ideas and time as I work away and I cant leave my missus and two young kids with a useless car (even had to go and look at a Mitsubishi yesterday). Anyway is there anything else I can try? I cant believe such a simple mechanical machine and reliable will be off the road and dead just because of and alarm and immobiliser problems.

how did you bypass it spider apart from cutting feed to pump .starter also cuts earth to starter relay
Put everything back together. And now when you lock the car with the fob it locks then unlocks all by itself then the alarm sounds! The remote is a bit dodgy sometimes takes a while to stop the alarm to start the car. But im not convinced its just a new key fob I need. And the immobiliser still comes on. Im afraid the alarm has the better of me and we are taking a L200 Warrior for a test drive tomorrow.

'Bounce back' can be a result of either the actuator being out of adjustment in the drivers door, the alarm will sound if the door unlocks and is not unlocked via the fob as the alarm ecu is voltage sensing. So re-adjust the actuators mounting plate so the door locks/unlocks as it should.

I have a 300Tdi Auto and one day the immobiliser would not deactivate. I could open the doors with the key but the key fob did nothing.
We took out the green box behind the glovebox and removed the board. It was pretty dusty and the dust was a little damp.
After cleaning it off and inspecting it we put it back in the car and all worked perfectly again.
