I used some chequer plate today - it was the only ali sheet that I had that was big enough.

I did consider that, but the back isn't flat and looks worse that the front!

why do people use it as a tread surface? its more slippy than sheet metal especialy in riggers

cheers mate, but I had ter replace that cos it ain't plastic, it's vinyl covered cardboard and fell ter bits wiv the weight of the switches.

is yer knob silver too? I can't tell from the photaes but it looks silver or just polished with hard use?

The black dial / switch bases with metal interior and leatherette wrap are a fiver from dealers....
