can any one tell me where to get the hydrolic tappets for my 2.5 td im in west yorkshire thanks![]()
Ahhhh....thats betteryes 12 .don't know why i was thinking it was 5 cylinders
The question is, why would it need all the hydraulic tappets replaced?
i just got the range rover and its oil was black and like water but its all new with new fillter now.
its not bad when i 1st start it but when its up to temp it sounds like a heavy tapping in rocker cover.
sound like just one but i was thinking its best to change them all
it has no servive history
i will try the tins of STP ,,thanks for the help
Can't see how a thick gloop like STP will help. Replacing the engine oil with cheap ATF and then driving (gently) for a few days is more likely to unstick gummed up hydraulic tappets. ATF has tonnes of detergent in it, the downside is any sludge knocking around in the engine will go for a trip round the block too. After a few of 20-30 mile trips if they tappets don't free up then it's time to replace them, if they do then drain the ATF (when hot) and replenish with engine oil. Obviously this is carried out at your own risk but it has worked for me a couple of times over the years.
You will need to change the FIP or at the very least the Electronical part of the FIP to the Range Rover one....the BMW FIP electrickery won't talk to the RR ECU....well think im going to put another engine in it its getting louder .
will the engine from a bmw 325td or 525td go in ok
