I have purchased a secondhand LR single cd and want to put it into my TD5 which currently has a tape player. Obviously the connectors are different, is there an adapter and if so where can I get one?

You can get an adapter harness for almost any stereo, I don't know what plugs you're dealing with, but to be honest, if you're handy with a soldering iron, just use the old one out of the old head unit and solder the corresponding leads onto the new one... Red and Yellow will be the power (one will be permanent live and one switched from the ignition - These vary from car to car so check first) Black is the earth, Blue is the powered aerial/ amp trigger. and the rest are pretty much all speakers (green, grey, purple and white if i remember correctly, with a black stripe for their negatives).

if they are both td5 LR units it should be a straight swap, or is the CD player not a LR unit?

Both LR units but different plugs. Nice to get a sensible response though.

chaps yu seem to be missing the main point ere.. Yes he can chop the plug off the stereo. BUT the dash controls won't work Had the same problem in my 300tdi. fitted a LR cd player. got the adaptor from halfords. No dash controls anymore

Just for the record I have looked on eBay and halfords already but cannot find what I need, the reason I asked on here is I thought it might be a common question and speed up my search. I could solder the wires but just wanted a quick and easy swap over and thought this was the best place to ask the question.

Those in the links should be fine. Is it something specific you're asking? In my RR i had to buy the harness to plug into a more modern stereo.
