Thought this would be straightforward but it`s not...I have an ex-mod 110. Bought a T bar type wheel brace and it fits onto all the wheel nuts on the 4 rims. But when I try to get it round the two nuts holding the spare onto the bonnet it doesn't fit as the nuts are too big. I`m confused
 
um... use a bigger socket

If its a proper military bonnet mount they use big bolts to hold them on. Brass ones I think from memory?
 
They looked like steel but not completely sure. Why would they be a different size to the wheel nuts? Just seems like a bad design. I will have to go to halfords to get another socket then as they are huge! Thanks

Cant see how you not having a decent tool set is the designers fault.
 
Cheers for the offer! Bristol, but I will probably have to buy a socket as I don`t want to be stuck somewhere with a puncture and no way to get the spare off the bonnet.

Then you dont have the right tools do you.

I dont go up to an 27mm nut with a 24mm spanner and wonder why it doesnt fit then bemoan the design. If it requires a certain size fastener then that is what it requires.

Being made of brass so that it doesnt seize to the bonnet mounting plate, it would need to be bigger so that you dont shear the bloody thing off (being that brass is quite soft)
 
40 is a good number for a Land Rover starter kit. You'll easily double that as the years go by.
 
I'm sure the bolts on my bonnet are the same size as the wheel nuts. Not much point having a spare wheel if Land Rover didn't supply the right tool to use it.

The OP bought a cheap T bar brace, not a landrover supplied tool
 
But surely if it was the wrong tool it wouldn`t fit the wheel nuts anyway? It just makes sense and is logical that they are the same size?
 
I honestly wouldn`t be surprised, found a few non-standard sizes and general bodges on the landy. Just trying to figure out if different sized bolts is a standard feature on MOD defenders? Guessing they would be easy to change to the same size as the wheel nuts once I get them off :) ?
 
i have a box spanner that was with my ex-mod landrover that fits the wheel fasterners on the bonnet.

they are much bigger as there is only 2 holding them down, also they dont go through the wheel bolt holes but fasten a bracket to hold the wheel down ffs.

Mine are barely more than finger tight, then i use a small 'D' shackle through the locking pin to make sure the wheel is held down even if the nuts are off. this i can undo with a pair of pliers.

Get a bigger socket or use an adjustable wrench, it aint rocket science.

Cant believe this is even an issue tbh
 
you do have the type of wheel holder that is 2 pillars that a locking collar goes over dont you? That holder doesnt have nuts, the fasterners are like giant brass machine bolts.
