Hello all. I'm looking for a solution to the hideous faded black plastic bumpers on my 95 disco I've tried that Spray-on rubbish that looks great for.............. 10 minutes before it rains and washed it off leaving streaks.

I want a one off solution. My neighbour suggested sanding down and using a polycarbonate black spray paint???? Anyone done this or have that magic cure (other than buying brand new parts)

I used a hot-air gun, far easier and safer than a torch ..

Mix up some orange oil and lemon oil (not juice, proper essence stuff), paint that over the surface, gently warm with a heat gun on low, and presto - as new!!

A light sanding with 1200 wet&dry then this stuff Autoglym Bumper And Trim Gel blingy

Good luck. Heat gun will work a treat, works great on disco bumpers. My advice would be to go over it once and avoid the temptation to keep going back over the same spot as it quickly gets bendy! Let it cool a bit before going back over it!

Autoglym bumpercare is the best stuff for car plastics. I've used it on all my cars and the XR2 I have now owned for over 20 years and the bodykit on that car is still looking like new, and they were notorious for fading. I used it on all the black plastic on my Disco when I got it. I can't believe the amount of vehicles I see around with washed out faded looking bumpers etc. Doesn't take long to get them looking good with bumpercare...use a bit of sponge to apply it.

I'm happy to try anything but as its a product you apply does it streak or fade again after time. I don't mind having to apply it once every 6 months but not weekly or EVERYTIME it rains?

With black plastic trim there isn't really a treatment that will last months and months, Bumpercare doesn,t generally streak but you will have to apply it at least once a month to keep the plastics looking black. It also conditions the plastic and protects it against rain pollution and ultra violet light, it does seem to soak in to plastics that haven't been treated and may need 2 or 3 coats within hours to make the trim look dark and shiny.

I'm with Deak, peanut butter (smooth obviously). Make a really good finish. Use a cheaper version, it has more oil.
