If practised you can change from low to high and high to low whike driving aslong as you match it up its ok. But it is not advisable if you have not already used to doing this as you can get it very wrong and damage it.

Difflock should be engaged before you hit any bad bits. Believe it or not wet muddy grass is much worse than it looks. If you engage difflock once you are in the ****e its usually too late. you should select a gear to get you into through and out the bit you are trying to cross. If the mud is bad then do not try and change up you will lose momentum and end up stuck. Select a gear (usually 2nd low difflock) for most stuff with half decent tyres.

I have fitted bigger tyres on mine and it throws out the gear ratios. I use low box 2nd 90% and somtimes high but favour 3rd low over high range. My low range will soon be ultra low with 4.7 ratio diffs.

There is such thing as a even lower ratio transfer box, lower than the defender one. They are hard to find though, but tis probaly easier than changing the diffs.

How can it not be advised? In order to be practised at it you need to have tried it for the very first time at some point.

I wouldn't advise you to jump off a cliff but base jumpers have been doing it for years

...and in order for them to do so they did it for the first time to start the ball rolling. Or were they fully experienced before they even practised it?

Doesn't warrant a reply. I think what I said makes perrrfect sense. Obviously if you didn't get it I can explain in more detail. and nobody is stopping you going out and practising changing up and down with your transfer box. If it breaks you will come on ere saying That Cuunt Jai told me you can do it. Well you can but its not advisable LR techs and Demonstrators are taught it and have practised many a time. Probably on customers motas.

So then once again and in a nutshell...it has to be practised. Therefore it requires a 'first time' whether you're a LR test pilot or a mountain goat.

In fact to Stop you messing it up and breaking the transferbox they tell you to only change it while in the stationary position. To stop muppets banging it into low box while still at highrange speeds.

Been driving in London WC1 today I really could have done with low range and difflock to ram some of the Twots that kept trying to cut me up.

Anyways does anyone know where I can get a salisbury axle caliper bracket FRC3306 or somthing like that part no? for less than £40 each?

I wish I could Landy not Mot'd (****er) no time and its cold outside. (wimp) Also there is a trial this weekend with the ALRC (my Sig) that I'll go marshall for the keen youngsters to take part in on the wee tractor/hybrid/offroader. Wish my landy was done leaving in the dark and returning home when its dark sucks. I refuse to change wheel cylinders on my salisbury for an MOT cos I wanna get the disks/calipers mounted up and swap out the detroit on to the 4.7 ratio axle.
