if you dont even know what it looks like to be able to find it i dont think you have the ability to do anything constructive once youve found it. i suggest you go on fleabay buy a haynes manual and do some reading to get a glimmer of an idea of what youre trying to do.

Pics are difficult due to the location, but here's a quick 'how to', written on the fly:

1. Park the front end of the Disco on ramps, and remove battery earth lead;

2. Get underneath and locate the starter motor - it's on the drivers side of the engine, just in front of the bellhousing;

3. It's fixed in three places: 13mm at bottom; 13mm bolt on side & 15mm nut on top;

4. Remove the electrical connections;

5. Using a short nose 15mm socket and 6 inch extension slacken the top nut, then remove the 13mm bolts then remove the 15mm nut by hand.

6. There is a guy on Ebay that sells solenoid kits for this starter for £10 - get one in stock so you can fit it once the starter is off.

7. Follow the instructions (excellent btw) for fitting the new solenoid kit;

8. Reinstall the starter by hooking onto the top stud and hand-fitting the nut, then install the two 13mm bolts and torque all three fixings to correct torque.

9. Re fit electrical connections, refit battery earth and start engine.

Bask in the glory of repairing your vehicle yourself with a can of suitable lubricant.

Ps You're sure it's the starter and not a weak battery?

Fairplay Biglad, full, clear instructions, I could send my doris to do that job now!
To the op- as Ricc say's get a haynes manual, I expect you'll need it quite regularly, pretty good bedtime reading too! ;)
