Hi everyone, ive had my freelander for nearly a week now and compared to my last car the clutch feels VERY heavy, I know its a big vehicle but so is my work truck and thats ok.
Its making my leg ache in traffic more than a ten mile run does!
I dont know if this makes sense but when you lean into the footwell and push the clutch pedal down with your hand this is near impossible!
Is this normal?

Im taking the car back to the dealer because of other problems but if this isnt normal I will query this too!

Thanks in advance!

A correctly working Freelander clutch isn't any heavier than any other car of the same age.

The TD4 uses a concentric bearing so unlike the PG1 box, shouldn't rust up.
All clutches get heavier as the plate wears, this is because the finger fulcrum angle changes to compensate for plate wear.

It doesnt feel like its sticking but it is hard to control because of how heavy it is, I cant imagine a small built woman even being able to depress it!

So possibly wear could be causing it to be heavier?

Im starting to think that because of the other problems ive had in a week of owning it that maybe I should be considering asking for a refund or exchange for the other freelander they have. This one wasnt cheap but I bought it because I wanted one with full history from a reputable garage!

My clutch has always been quite heavy, such that my mrs will not drive it ( hence not fixed it yet !!) but its never got any worse in 3 years....or better. All ive done is change the fluid which helped a little bit but not much. Might pencil it in as next job. I know its a common fault in these motors but its definetely not right.
